Everybody plans the install. Almost nobody plans January
Holiday lighting conversations are almost entirely about putting them up. Which makes sense, because that is the part you are excited about. But the season ends, and everything that went up has to come down. The people who thought about that in October have a much better January than the people who did not.And that is unfortunate, because the second half is the one that costs you if it is not covered. Anybody can put a display up. The question is whether anyone comes back. That question belongs in the first conversation, not the one you have in January.
Doing it yourself, honestly
Taking lights down is worse than putting them up, and almost nobody expects that. The weather is colder. The motivation is gone. And at the end of it you own a pile of cable. Then the strands get boxed and shoved somewhere, and something in there stops working before you see it again.
Takedown as part of the job
On a properly structured holiday lighting service, January is already covered. When the season ends, a crew comes back and removes everything. Everything gets catalogued and stored off site, instead of living in your attic. You never store a single strand.
The case for off site storage
Off site storage solves three problems at once. Space is reclaimed. The lights do not degrade in a hot attic, because they are stored properly rather than compressed under something heavy. Labeling is why year two looks like year one.
The permanent alternative sidesteps all of it
The other option makes January irrelevant. A permanent LED system goes up once and stays, so nothing comes down and nothing needs a shelf. It is a bigger first step, and it is not right for everybody. But if the takedown conversation is what is bothering you, it is a fair question to raise.

Over a full season, something will eventually need a look. The question is who you call. Service during the season belongs on the quote, and you should know before December. Ask before you book, rather than the week you need it.
Year two is much shorter
